Obie Trice Album Playback

Thursday 4th May, 2006

Industry professionals and journalists gathered at Astor Bar and Grill in Piccadilly for the playback of Obie Trice’s new album, ‘Second Round’s On Me’. Host and president of Shady Records, Paul Rosenberg, thanked the crowd for turning up despite it being the hottest day the UK had seen this year.

At the plush venue, complimentary drinks were provided by Polydor and the session kicked off with the video for Trice’s single, ‘Snitch’ featuring Akon, the man everyone wants to collaborate with at the moment.

Kiss 100’s Matt White was on the decks and when the CD-player decided to work, he played a selection of tracks from the forthcoming album. The first of many Eminem-produced tracks was the head-banging tune ‘24’s’, which Rosenberg explained is about the 24 inch wheels with small tyres that you get Stateside.

The second offering was a dancehall track entitled ‘Jamaican Girl’, which although produced by Eminem, it wasn’t his usual distinct flavour. This was followed by ‘Ghetto’, Rosenberg’s personal favourite.

The fourth teaser was from a track called ‘Out of State’, where Obie Trice seems to have a fond liking for the much-disliked ‘N’ word; nevertheless it’s got the making of a party anthem.

The next track was ‘Cry Now’ featuring Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson, a song which makes reference to the New Year’s Eve incident when Trice got shot in the head. The bullet is still lodged in his skull and despite his injuries, he was back in the studio two days later.

The sixth track was called ‘Lace’ and the playback concluded with a snippet of a track called ‘Terrible’. Overall there are a few catchy tunes for Trice’s fans to savour.

The playback was an opportunity to get a feel for what Obie’s fans have in store when his album is released next month. Currently doing promos in the US, Obie plans to perform in the UK later this summer.

‘Second Round’s On Me’ is released on June 19, 2006, on Shady/Interscope Records.
