South London’s legendary old skool night ‘Fidgit’ at Plan B, played host to the return of the UK’s world-renowned Hip Hop turntablist DJ Yoda this Friday along with US lyricist and producer duo, Kidz In The Hall. The joining of the UK /US forces proved to be a real success as they played to a packed-out crowd of adorning fans.

The hype in Brixton had already begun way early in the night, with Plan B reaching capacity by 11pm, so my fellow press heads and I rocked up just after 11, we were rather disappointingly left outside in the artic conditions for over 20 minutes waiting for the one in, one out policy to subside. Luckily, with it then being some people’s bedtimes, we finally got in to thaw out and then the party began.

Left of centre Hip Hop duo Kidz in the Hall, got things off to a good start spinning old skool classics such as Mr. Jackson’s 'P.Y.T.' and Bobby Brown’s 'Poison'. There’s been big hype surrounding the Chicago pair following their signing to the infamous Rawkus Records and release of their debut album ‘School Was My Hustle’. Their mixes set the party atmosphere alive and the hyped up crowd were trying to out-do each other by showing off their best funk moves.

Then the mixtape maestro himself took centre stage on the decks, with his intro set practically drowned out by the crowds’ deafening screams of excitement. Yoda, known for his love of injecting humour into his work, delivered a classic two-hour set featuring cuts from practically every genre of contemporary music from over the past 30 years.

One of the most bizarre but amusing highlights of the night was the mix of the Snow White and the seven dwarfs song ‘Hi Ho’ with Juelz Santana’s 'There It Go (The Whistle Song)'. Yoda continued to entertain the crowd and cross musical boundaries all night mixing the likes of hip hop, soul, new jack swing, reggae, funk, UK grime and movie samples.

DJ Yoda didn’t fail to impress and the place was still rockin at 4am…. He even took his precious mixing hands off the decks for a minute to pose for photos for us... What a true legend.
