It has been a long anticipated wait…but finally Mona Records presents the amazing talent that is Nathan, a ‘Masterpiece’ in the making.

Nathan is no stranger to followers of the UK music scene. Crashing into the music arena at the tender age of 17 back in 2004, Nathan made his mark with the hit track ‘Come Into My Room’. Initially signed to V2 records, the single made it into the UK Top 40 and with that, the scene was set.

This relatively underground artist was ready to shake up UK R&B and take the genre to new heights, and with the success of ‘Come Into My Room’ and the subsequent singles ‘Round and Round’, ‘Cold As Ice’ and ‘They Can’t Take Me Away’, it appeared he was onto a winner. However, it has taken three years for this South Londoner, now signed to Mona Records, to deliver the long overdue ‘Masterpiece’ album, illustrating his coming of age in the R&B game.

Nowhere could this be more fitting than in the luxurious setting of The Riverbank Plaza in London. The record company kept us waiting with great anticipation and although Nathan was 30 minutes late to begin, what he delivered was sheer excellence, giving him the well deserved title of ‘Britain’s finest’.

Maintaining that element of suspense and anticipation, Nathan began with an a cappella rendition of ‘Come Into My Room’ from the backstage to the main stage, highlighting his matured and soulful vocal range. This made the small, candlelit and personal setting all the more intimate. Dressed in white, Nathan glided on stage wooing the predominately female audience who had won exclusive tickets to be at the showcase.

Switching the tempo and revealing some of his influences, such as Usher and Michael Jackson, Nathan blasted out a hot tune called ‘Snatch’. Not only did the track show off his vocal abilities, but also his presence as an entertainer and performer. Aided by the backing dancers, Nathan revealed he is a true showman with the capacity to capture the audiences’ gaze. The deliverance of the song testified to Nathan’s capability of withstanding the pressures from American artists such as Chris Brown and Ne-yo and becoming an international name.

The audience were then treated to the smooth, sexy and soulful sounds of ‘You Make Me Feel’ and ‘Do Without My Love’. With both renditions, Nathan truly demonstrated his maturity in lyrical content and performance, borrowing the charm and charisma of greats such Marvin Gaye and even Usher.

Nathan ended the evening with the audience wanting more and more, all drawn to him as a performer and as a person, having pulled his mother on stage and thanking her for her support.

The sky is the limit for Nathan; the UK should feel proud that he is flying the colours for UK R&B.
