Usher concert review By Keya Modessa
Many have regarded Usher’s latest album ‘Confessions,’ as one of his best contributions to the music industry. But saddled along with the multi platinum sales and highly successful top ten singles, there have also been reports that the Atlanta based artist has now become somewhat arrogant. It’s been ten years since the singer first made his mark on the RnB scene. He’s one of the only artists since the Beatles to have three tracks riding high in the USA top ten; to become a little arrogant now, is not only expected, but in Usher’s case, it is also accepted. However, this was the last thing playing on my mind as I strolled down to Wembley Arena to watch him embark on his UK Truth tour. With embellished diamonds sparkling on the back of a whiter than white suit and down his trousers, Usher literally woke up the arena as he belted out the unreleased track, ‘Caught Up’ to throngs of screaming fans. As he lay into those highly anticipated dance routines the audience’s eyes were fixated on his fancy footwork and their ears glued to his solid vocals. Mr Raymond also performed previous hit ‘You make me Wanna’ and ‘You Got It Bad’ which were both met with rapturous approval. It was however during his rendition of ‘Nice & Slow’ that temperatures really reached boiling point. As he threw his microphone down to the ground, he gently let his body follow, slowly collapsing to the floor and grinding along with the music. The first release from his album ‘Yeah’ exploded onto stage as Usher bellowed out “Peace up A Town Down!” It was too hard to remain seated as the bass kicked in and the familiar chorus circled the arena. There were times when the singer’s own vocals were drowned out by the masses of fans singing along to his tunes. It was during ‘Burn’ that the arena slightly simmered down as bright orange flames flickered along to the beautiful ballad. The RnB boy wonder entertained the crowds relentlessly. I am sure that his strong choreographed dance steps accompanied with his powerful vocals left many wondering where this endless energy supply came from? Other memorable performances included his rendition of ‘Superstar.’ As one lucky girl was picked out of the audience, Usher serenaded to her whilst her eyes remained locked into his gaze. During one of his well-loved tracks ‘You Remind Me’ Usher wove our attention like a thread as he simultaneously enticed the fans and the array of beauties on stage with him. I have always considered Usher 100% consistent in everything he takes on. His ability to combine his passion of music, with his pleasure to entertain, sets him above many of his peers. Arrogance…what arrogance? A true star shines. Return To Concert Review Archive
