| Manhattan born A.D.O.R. has relished a fruitful career dating well over a decade. By being an established hip-hop star and founder of a major independent label (TruReign), there is little to dispute this. The aptly named ‘Classic Bangerz’ is an accumulation of A.D.O.R.’s biggest hits to date, plus in most cases, some impressive new material. Although A.D.O.R is the executive producer on this record, he has amalgamated an array of highly respected co-producers such as Pete Rock, Marly Marl, Fatboy Slim and hotly tipped newcomer Ja Bone, who embodies his services on explosive opener ‘No Tyme’ and the hard-hitting anthem ‘Treasures’. The album kicks off with ‘No Tyme’, which acutely encapsulates all that is A.D.O.R, displaying his authentic style perfectly. Strangely, multi-platinum dance release ‘Renegade Master’, produced by Fatboy Slim is one of the stronger tracks, yet it is largely against the grain of the album, given its dance genre. The usual, undeniably infectious Norman Cook trademarks such as the jumpy staccato vocals, pop up from all directions… There are a number of eminent tracks on ‘Classic Bangerz’ such as the 1992 hit ‘Let It All Hang Out’, which do stand out from the rest, casting an unwelcome shadow on others which are not as strong and seem to be somewhat of album fillers. A.D.O.R. suffered a plethora of problems with original label Atlantic. His first album ‘The Concrete’ was never given an official release and he was soon dropped. This ended in A.D.O.R. opening up a new window of opportunity by setting up his own label ‘TruReign’. During ‘MC Chronicles’, produced by Supa Will, he addresses the problems faced whilst in the ‘big time’. A.D.O.R. is an acronym for Another Dimension Of Rhythm, which he most certainly does offer. After being active in the music industry for well over a decade, and although A.D.O.R is not a household name, he certainly deserves a lot of respect for sticking to making music, even if it meant forming his own label. As he says in the album sleeve, ‘When I first realized my music was my path, I never asked to be the biggest and richest star, all I wanted was to do was be able to have the freedom to have a good life from my art and move the people with my music for a long time’. ‘Classic Bangerz’ is a varied collection of A.D.O.R.’s rollercoaster career, and possibly a stepping stone to his exciting new future.
