THE
SITUATION:
If opposition to war with Iraq was a label, it would be a very trendy
brand, through organic promotion. The coolest popstars such as Ms Dynamite
and Coldplay's Chris Martin sell it. George Michael promotes it on Frost.
Hip Hop artists such as Missy and Busta Rhymes are advertising it in
the New York Post.
Globally the press has played a big part in selling the label. Our very
own Mirror has a climbing total of 213,000 signatories to its 'Not In
Our Name' campaign. France's Le Monde has expressed the sentiments of
'old Europe' as Bush would have it, who along with Germany expressed
caution at launching an attack. It's en vogue to be a clotheshorse to
this cause. Publicity evokes the morality within the arguably fashionable
stance and poor old Tony Blair certainly looks last season. At least
120 Labour MPs expressed disdain with his fashion faux pas in the largest
ever revolt against government. However, a good leader cannot always
be popular. Opposition to war is ethical but does the UN, amendments
or inspectors offer any alternative to the threat of weapons of Mass
Destruction, dictatorships or terrorism? The west's motives for war
may be dubious, the threat from Saddam may not be immediate, but is
it better to anticipate rather than react when history has played out
your fears? It has been twelve years without action, will further inertia
be cause for regret? Post your views.

Why are
we havin' a war with iraq I mean what's the point of this war!!!!! Why
doesn't Saddam understand that we can kill him with one single atomic
bomb!!

This war
is about oil. If Saddam Hussain were a dictator in a country with no mineral/oil
reseves, there would be no advantage to getting rid of him, and we'd not
hear a jot about him.

Saddam
has to be removed to free the Iraqi people from his horrible regime. Power
to the people!!!

Get the
war over with. The sooner the better, the easier. Saddam has to go, just
like Hitler. There is no room in this world for dictators anymore.

Everyone
I know is against this war, I would rather the money is spent on hospital
beds and creating affordable housing.

I do not think a war with Iraq is currently justified, not by what
I have seen so far anyhow. The problem surrounding this issue is one of
understanding. There is so much we do not know and so little we're being
told. With this in mind I believe it hard to pass judgment. However, (as
I said) of what I have seen; a war is not justified, nor is war a good
thing. If they want to bring down a dictatorship why not try Zimbabwe?
I think it poses more of an immediate issue in light of the recent 'fixed'
election and their terrible human rights record. Its also within British
interest to do so, as it belongs to the Commonwealth. Not to say Saddam
is an angel or anything I just think there are other countries where the
situation is worse. I think this shows that this war is oil induced which
I think is immoral. Concerning terrorist issues I do not think Iraq poses
a significant threat to us. If a war was executed upon Iraq I think it
would spark a terrorist reaction (from small guerilla groups etc.). After
the march in February (particularly in London) I think it ignorant of
so called democracy leaders to still go full frontal with war. One.

No, personally, I don't believe war with Iraq is a good idea, no
matter how much I disagree with the leaders of the country and their regimes;
but in the end, it's money that talks, isn't it. There are many folks
lurking in the background, who are making shedloads of dosh from the theme
of war. Methinks there is far more going on here than is apparent to Joe
Public. But I'm not much of a chess player, so I don't know what the plan
is.

The whole thing is a joke. We are all victims of conspiracy and
propaganda. Just think about it. US and UK reckon that they found some
strong evidence of Iraq obtaining and hiding weapons of mass destruction.
If the evidence is really that strong why can't they get UN backing? There
are things that they don't want us to know, which means we can't judge
the situation to the full extent. Personally I think that the reason for
war is purely economic. Countries like Saudi Arabia and Iraq have a massive
power. Their power is oil, and the oil supply is running low. What happened
in 1986, when the biggest oil exporters in the world (Iraq etc.) suddenly
decided to raise their prices on oil over night? There was a huge economic
decline all over the world. People in many countries were facing petrol
shortage. US simply can not let some tiny country have so much power.
They will use any excuse for war. Your missile can go 2 miles further
than it is allowed by UN regulation,!
Face the war! US will start the war sooner or later; with or without UN
backing and UK will follow. There is nothing we can do to stop it from
happening. Should UK get involved or not is another big issue. The only
thing I can say that US is powerful enough and does not really need UK's
help.

I really wish I knew what to think. I keep being told by
the English and American governments that we do have reasons to go to
war to stop Saddam using his weapons of mass-destruction. However evidence
or no evidence I think that all Saddam cares about is his power and his
grip on it. This was shown in the Gulf War when Saddam backed down to
stay in power. I feel that if we go into Iraq Saddam will feel threatened
and if we push him into a corner then he may see a reason to use these
so-called weapons of mass-destruction.

We should not go in without UN backing.

America claims to be world saviour so if they talk the talk they should
walk the walk & go back to rescue afghanistan. N/Korea is gonna be
the proud owner of deadly nukes in a few weeks thanks to ole'Georges'
inertia. Iraq could have nukes in 5 maybe 10yrs time but is 1st on George'
list.... "Hello!... Houston we have a problem!". N/Korea is
determined to have nukes & poses a greater threat to world peace than
Iraq even kids in elementary education can tell, contrary to George's
opinion offcourse. Bushs' constant repetition on the Iraqi / al-Qaeda
link is not satisfying in convincing the world his resolve for war. His
argument should have been; al-Qaeda can disperse weapons of mass destruction
but they do not make em. This would justify the necessity to eliminate
Iraqi as a supplier of nukes for al-Qaeda use instead of talking endlessly
bout Sept 9/11. Finally Bush decided to go to war with Iraq not last week
but months ago. He deliberately picked on Iraq to take over from where
his father failed. Iraq is a victim of bullying despite its threat to
world peace. Bush is scared to back off now coz he will be branded gutless
leading to the rest of the world perceiving him as a weak leader further
leaving him open to imminent lethal jihad. we all wait to see the pandamonium
unfold in front of our eyes.
