Things are going brilliantly for you and your career, but can you remember what it was like when you first started out? Yeah absolutely and it felt the same was as it does today. I just am so glad to have been given this chance, this incredible opportunity. I don’t think that feeling of gratitude will ever leave me. How did you get your lucky break? My cousin who was nothing to do with the music industry took a mixtape into someone she knew at Parlaphone. It was a collection of songs I’d recorded on a karaoke machine. I pretty much got signed instantly and I was just 15 years old. Are you looking forward to getting involved in HUGO URBAN RULES? I am really looking forward to it. I think it’s a fantastic idea and the campaign is a big success. Music and the music industry is something I know a lot about so hopefully I’ll be able to play a good part and offer some useful advice. What tips do you have for people looking to get involved with HUGO URBAN RULES and looking to break into music? The best piece of advice I can give is to be nice to everyone. Personality is so important. As crazy as it may sound, talent should speak for itself, but the way you act and behave is fundamental to having longevity. HUGO URBAN RULES is about shining the spotlight on new talent, are you good at spotting the stars of tomorrow? Yes, I think so and I can definitely tell whether someone will be around long term. What will you be looking for from the new talent? I’ll be looking to assess people’s attitude, personality and talent. You need the right frame of mind to make it. I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone who makes it to the masterclasses and auditions because you never know what amazing talents are out there. Is it luck or talent? Well it’s probably 50/50. Talent is ever so important but so is luck. I mean there are so many incredibly talented people out there who have not been seen despite performing for years. You have to be in the right place at the right time and grab opportunities that come along to help put you in the limelight. HUGO URBAN RULES runs masterclasses on dance, business and singing. If you could have masterclasses in anything what would it be? Dancing. I’d love to be a great dancer. But if it was outside of music then I would love to train to be a crime scene investigator. I’ve always been interested in it, even when I was at school. I am in awe of investigators who piece together a crime like putting a puzzle together. I’m really into CSI and all that stuff! Is HUGO doing masterclasses in this though!! What advice do you have for the winner of HUGO URBAN RULES whose performance will be filmed by MTV and recorded for your Galaxy Radio Show? Keep your feet on the ground and enjoy every minute! The concert is on the 24th in I can’t wait. I hope there’s a good crowd because then the winner of HUGO URBAN RULES will have an even bigger opportunity to kick start their career.
